Building work is underway to bring four 3G artificial sports pitches to Dunes Splashworld in Southport.
Due for completion in Spring 2018, the state of the art pitches are set to open up a world of sporting opportunities in Southport and across the wider borough.
The all-weather pitches will be completely enclosed and will come complete with floodlights so games will be fully lit and can be played without interruptions.
While the pitches are the perfect size for a game of 5 a-side football, they can be booked out for any sports activities that would usually take place on grass.
Cllr Ian Moncur, Sefton Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, said: “It’s fantastic news that the new sports pitches are officially in the works.
“This greatly expands the leisure facilities on offer in Sefton and I’m excited to see how the Southport community will make the most of the new opportunities the sports pitches present.”
Mike Riley, senior operations manager at Dunes Splashworld, added: “The pitches will mark an exciting expansion here at Dunes Splashworld and will add to our extensive leisure facilities that already include a 25m pool, market leading gym facilities and of course an indoor water park.
“Dunes Splashworld is a community focused leisure centre and the new pitches will create even more ways for us to bring people together to lead a healthier lifestyle.”
Contractors Bernhards Sports Surfaces will be carrying out the work.
