Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service is urging everyone to improve their home safety by taking the quick, simple step of registering their fridges, freezers and washing machines.
Register My Appliance is a national fire safety campaign aimed at encouraging every UK householder to register their appliances online.
With an estimated 93million (92.7m) wet and cold appliances currently in use in our homes, keeping track of our fridges, freezers and washing machines is a crucial safety precaution.
By taking just a few minutes to register domestic appliances directly with the manufacturer, householders can be contacted quickly if a recall or free safety repair is ever needed.
Mark Thomas, Group Manager for Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service, urges the public to register products and not to forget the older appliances they have been using for years.
He said: “Registering appliances is so important – it takes just minutes but it will mean a manufacturer can contact you quickly if your product needs to be recalled for safety reasons.”
To register, visit www.registermyappliance.org.uk and follow the instructions. You will need the brand name and model of your product, plus the serial number (printed on the safety plate attached to your product) and approximate date of purchase.
