The line-up continues to expand for this year’s CBBC Summer Social, as the biggest ever BBC children’s event prepares to welcome acts such as Mackenzie Ziegler, Union J, New Hope Club, Mr. Tumble, Shrek the Musical, Sophia Grace and more.
Today the BBC has revealed that CBBC favourite Saturday Mash Up! will become Summer Social Mash Up! with special live broadcasts taking place every morning across the weekend. Ahead of the new series of Saturday Mash-Up! beginning in September, presenters Yasmin Evans and Jonny Nelson will take to the Summer Stage to bring awesome episodes full of mayhem, celebrity guests and live content from the festival.
The show will be live every day of the event on the mornings of Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so those who wish to take the incredible opportunity to be a part of the show are encouraged to arrive early.
Awesome Authors has also been added to the extensive offering, which will see a specially curated group of authors encourage children to read and use their imagination to create their own stories. Frank Cottrell-Boyce, screen writer and local to the festival, will delve into how he dreamt up his children’s tale, Sputnik’s Guide to Life, and be on hand to sign copies of the book.
MG Leonard, Kiran Millwood Hargrave, David Solomon, Lisa Thompson, Pamela Butchart, John Mayhew, Tamsyn Murray, Katie Thistleton and Michelle Robsinson will also be a part of the Awesome Authors programming.
The spectacular Northern Ballet has also partnered with the festival, offering families the chance to learn more about the Hans Christian Anderson fairytale, Ugly Duckling. The heartwarming story of a lonely duckling who learns she is beautiful, will bring together live dance, music and theatre all through fun workshops.
Leanne Kirkham, Director of Learning for Northern Ballet, said: “We are delighted to be teaming up with CBBC once again to offer families a chance to delve deeper into our well-loved production, Ugly Duckling.
“Summer Social is a fantastic way for Northern Ballet to reach new audiences, giving everyone the chance to get active and experience dancing through fun and friendly workshops, suitable for the whole family to enjoy together. Becoming official partners in this event further solidifies our shared commitment to bringing great cultural experiences to all.”
Set against the historic backdrop of the Grade II listed Croxteth Hall in Croxteth Country Park, revelers can expect the very best of CBBC programming including immersive activity zones, theatre shows, interactive and inspiring art workshops, top class musical experiences, cool outdoor and sporting activates, junior discos, themed treasure hunts, character walkabouts, vlogger meet and greets, live appearances from the most popular children’s authors and much, much more.
